What Are Variables?
A variable is like a box where you can keep things, such as numbers, text, or other types of data. You give the box a name so you can easily find and use what’s inside later. For example, if you want to store someone's age, you can create a variable called age and put the number in it.
In JavaScript, you declare (create) a variable using keywords like let, const, or var. We'll focus on let and const because they're the most commonly used today.
How to Declare Variables
Here’s how you declare a variable:
let name = "Ahmad"; // This creates a variable called 'name' and stores the value "Ahmad" const age = 25; // This creates a constant variable called 'age' with the value 25
- let: Use this when you might need to change the value later.
- const: Use this when the value won’t change, like someone’s birth year.
Once you’ve declared a variable, you can use it anywhere in your code. For example:
let greeting = "Salamu alaikum"; console.log(greeting); // This will print "Salamu alaikum" to the console
Why Are Variables Important?
Variables are essential because they allow you to store and reuse data easily. Imagine writing a program that calculates someone’s age based on their birth year. Instead of typing the birth year over and over, you can store it in a variable and use that variable wherever needed. This makes your code cleaner, easier to read, and less prone to errors.
